# eBay Common Errors

When working with eBay listings in LitCommerce, you may come across errors returned by eBay during the listing or update process.

This article provides general guidance on how to resolve them.

## <mark style="color:$primary;">**Error caused by missing required fields**</mark>

### <mark style="color:$info;">**The item specific \[Field] is missing**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/YpqnFVsyNJbrjuDLmY8y" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This error occurs when values for one or more required item specifics are not provided. eBay mandates that all necessary fields be completed for a listing to be successfully published and made available for purchase on the marketplace.

To fix this, review the error message, go to the Required Item Specifics section under the Category tab, and fill in the missing values. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (\*).

Once all mandatory item specifics are completed, click `Save & Publish` to resubmit your listing to eBay.

### <mark style="color:$info;">**Product Image Required**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/fSHd7rVacORqN7LvHgxT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You may encounter this error when product images are not included in the listing. Fix it by following the steps below:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Add images to the corresponding product in your Main Store.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Wait approximately 15 minutes for the images to update automatically in the LitCommerce All Products section (if the Auto Update feature is enabled). Otherwise, you can click `Update From Main Store` to trigger an immediate update.

<figure><img src="/files/Gw9xTtJKqnzMdKxhBE5Z" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Go to the LitCommerce eBay channel, navigate to the Images tab in the listing details page, and click `Load Images from Main Store` to update the images in your eBay listing.

<figure><img src="/files/4V0Vs8hcwkPa4cL4mq5R" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click `Save & Publish` to republish the listing on eBay.

<figure><img src="/files/N1ZaEWDCI4AdRUcO51QN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**In some cases, this error may still appear on your listing even when product images have already been provided. This usually happens because eBay has not yet fully processed the image data.**&#x20;

**To resolve the issue, click `Load Images From Main Store`, then republish your listing to push the updated images to eBay.**
{% endhint %}

## <mark style="color:$primary;">**Error caused by conflicts with eBay requirements**</mark>

### <mark style="color:$info;">**Title can be up to 80 characters**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/aakfhWEbW12uwnvQ1ugv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

eBay allows a maximum of 80 characters for product titles. Exceeding this limit will result in the marketplace returning an error message for the listing.

You can fix it by editing the title on the listing details page and clicking `Save & Publish` to update it on eBay.

<figure><img src="/files/aLDWAjFF6tMlQc1QxjBu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Alternatively, enable the `Auto Trim Title` feature in the [eBay Channel Settings](https://litcommerce.gitbook.io/litcommerce-helpdesk/marketplace-integration/supported-platforms/ebay/ebay-channel-settings#other-settings) to ensure titles are automatically shortened to comply with the 80-character limit. This affects both existing and newly added listings on the channel.

### <mark style="color:$info;">**The variation name you have specified is not allowed**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/ek3uRkI5k7pGJ5sk4fCw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This error appears because eBay does not allow variant attribute names to match the names of default fields or item specifics used by the marketplace.

To resolve it, navigate to the Variations tab within the listing details page and modify any variant attribute names that match eBay default fields or item specifics. Then, click `Save & Publish` to resubmit your listing.

<figure><img src="/files/aNcLEiBnJUpUCkQ6nY91" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### <mark style="color:$info;">**The specified listing category does not support multi-variation (multi-SKU) listings**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/2vKidXysCyc3sBFHufB2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Note that not all eBay categories support listings with a variant format. Choosing the incorrect category will prevent your listings from being listed on eBay.

You can narrow down the options by enabling the `Variation Enabled Only` toggle. This helps filter out categories that do not support variant listings.

<figure><img src="/files/f1ru4oZJ8IsHz3q74v1o" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Changing the category will require re-entering data in the associated item specifics. Make sure to double-check the information during the process.**
{% endhint %}

### <mark style="color:$info;">**This listing would cause you to exceed the number of items and amount you can list**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/JqXvfxKBjtNITPw7X3cq" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

eBay applies selling limits to all seller accounts. Each account has a monthly cap based on the number of items you can list and the maximum selling amount.

This means you can only list a limited number of products per month, up to a capped total value. This limit varies by account and is determined by your selling history, performance, and other factors. Find more information about eBay selling limits [HERE](https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/selling-limits?id=4107).

If you encounter an error due to the selling limit being exceeded, there are a few workarounds for it using the eBay Channel Settings:

* **Main Store products that do not track inventory (No Manage Stock):** When listed on the LitCommerce eBay channel, their quantity is automatically set to 999 by default. To reduce the total quantity displayed on eBay, you can adjust the feature `For No Manage Stock listings, automatically set quantity to` to 1-2. This allows you to list more items within your selling limit.

<figure><img src="/files/vMbySXnDTLow5wW8wLok" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Main Store products that track inventory (Manage Stock):** The `Maximum Quantity` setting helps cap the stock from your Main Store at a specific value. To ensure your products on eBay stay within the selling limit even if you have more in stock in your Main Store, adjust the Maximum Quantity to 1–2.

{% hint style="success" %}
**In case the solutions above do not work, you may** [**request eBay**](https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicId=4107\&af=2) **to increase your selling limit.**
{% endhint %}

### <mark style="color:$info;">**Error while syncing: The price for this item cannot be updated since it is a part of a sale**</mark>

By default, eBay’s sale settings do not allow price updates to listings while a promotion is active.

Due to eBay API requirements, inventory and price from LitCommerce must be sent to the marketplace simultaneously when either of these data sync processes occurs. As a result, you may encounter this error message.

<figure><img src="/files/sW8MHS4R11yabuVIc693" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**For simple listings, inventory and price are independent and can be sent to eBay separately. The error message will only appear when Price Sync is enabled.**
{% endhint %}

This can easily be fixed by following the steps below:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Head to the [sale event](https://export.ebay.com/en/services-tools/discounts-manager/sale-event/) on your eBay Seller Hub and select the running event.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Uncheck the box `Keep items in this sale and block revisions for price increases`.

<figure><img src="/files/cquIcRurhmddDdeNfPhd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Uncheck the box `Keep items in this sale and block revisions for price increases` will exclude the listings from the promotion when their price is updated. You can manually put them on sale again directly on eBay.**
{% endhint %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Save the sale setting.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Once all steps are completed, LitCommerce will automatically sync the data to eBay within 15 minutes and clear the error message. You can also trigger the update manually by selecting `Update to eBay`.

<figure><img src="/files/DDDz0mla37sa5syxL1Gu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### <mark style="color:$info;">**Error while syncing: You are not allowed to revise ended listing**</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/tusJ7uexc61sEFwkANQf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

eBay does not allow modifying product details for ended listings. This also applies to listings managed via LitCommerce.

If Auto Relist is disabled while other sync features remain active, any data updates sent from LitCommerce will cause eBay to return an error for ended listings.

To resolve it, simply use the `Relist on eBay` action to relist the listings on eBay and maintain the sync flow.

<figure><img src="/files/ek8e6EwNrEljwmzgxANU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In some cases, your listings may not be relisted due to the following reasons:

* The listing has been ended on eBay for more than 90 days.
* The listing in LitCommerce has a quantity of 0 when being relisted.
* The listing in LitCommerce has certain data conflicts with its corresponding listing on eBay when being relisted.

You can utilize the `Sell Similar` action to make your listings active on eBay. More details on Relist and Sell Similar can be found in [this article](https://litcommerce.gitbook.io/litcommerce-helpdesk/marketplace-integration/supported-platforms/ebay/ebay-relist-vs-sell-similar).
