Feed Setup - Rules Step

What Are Rules

The Rules section in the feed allows you to modify and optimize product data, ensuring it meets channel requirements, such as Google Shopping or Facebook.
With rules, you can manipulate, enhance, and refine your imported data, ensuring the final export meets the specific needs of the selected channel.

How to Use Rules

In the rules section, you can either Add Rule or Copy Rules from other feeds.

Rules consist of three components:
If-condition: Defines which items you want to target in a rule. You select the target items by specifying the “field”, “filter” and “value” for the condition.

Example: To filter out items with an empty description field, start by selecting the "Description" field in the If-condition and choosing “is empty.”

Then-statement: Specifies the action to apply to the items selected in the If-condition.

Example: If you've selected items with an empty description field in the If-condition, you may want to exclude them from the export. Simply select Exclude product from feed in the Then-statement.

Else-statement(optional): Unlike the Then-statement, Else-statement applies changes to products not targeted in the If-condition. This minimizes the number of rules needed.

Example: If you want to add the brand to the name of products with Vendor field available, while excluding products without a brand. This can be done in a single rule using the Else-statement.

By combining If-Then-Else statements, users can have full control over their items.

Item Count and Rules Order

After saving a rule, Item Count section will display how many items were modified and what changes were made. You can also view the items targeted by the If-statement, along with the differences before and after the rule was applied.

The order of rules is important because they are executed sequentially, from top to bottom. For example, if a rule excludes certain items, those items won’t appear in the subsequent rules. Similarly, if a title is changed in the first rule, it will no longer appear with its original title in any rules that follow.
