What is Categorization for Feeds?

Categorization is essential when setting up a feed in LitCommerce. Proper categorization helps your products be accurately listed and improves visibility to potential buyers.

How to Categorize Your Products?

In the Categories step, LitCommerce provide tools to help you quickly map items with the suitable product category on the channel.

Add Category:
By clicking the Add Category button, you can create category rules based on item fields.


User can choose field, decide whether to filter on exact matches or partial matches, and then select the appropriate value. The Set to Category dropdown also suggests categories that best match the value, simplifying manual categorization.


For example above, a category is set like this: If “Product Type” contains “Shirt”, set the category to “Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Shirts & Tops”. This will assign that category to all items that contains “Shirt” in their Product Type field.

Generate Categories
In the Categories step, you will see the Generate Categories button. If you have already added categories manually, this option will be in the Select Action menu.

Click on Generate Categories to open a pop-up window. You can select the field from which to generate your categories. Ideally, you should use the most specific categorization available for your items . After selecting the field, click Save.

The system will automatically generate category rules based on the selected field. These rules follow the same principles as those created using Add Category.


You will need to fill in the Set to Category field to complete the rules.

Copy Categories
You will either see the Copy Categories immediately or in the Select Action menu if categories have already been set. Select Copy Categories, and a pop-up will appear, allowing you to select which feed you want to copy the category rules from. Click Copy, and all category settings from that feed will be copied to the current feed, excluding the Set to Category fields.

Don’t Forget to Save Your Categories

Once satisfied with your categorization, click Save. Otherwise, all changes will be lost.


After saving, the number of categorized products will be displayed next to each category rule. You can click on this number to view the categorized items under that rule.
It’s recommended to ensure all items are categorized, so that none remains in the Uncategorized Items tab.

Note: Some channels may not require categorization, so you can skip this step if it’s not needed for that specific channel.
